The IBM System z Application Assist Processor, previously known as the zSeries Application Assist Processor, is a mainframe processor introduced by IBM in 2004. zAAP engines are dedicated to running specific Java and XML workloads under z/OS, accelerating performance. zAAPs are available for zSeries 990 and 890 servers and later zSeries and zEnterprise models. Beginning with the IBM z13, the zAAP functionality is integrated with zIIP …

You’ll save significantly on operating costs with minimal effort. Reduce mainframe costs in days More technically as well as normal cpu's a mainframe can have several specialty engines (like zIIP) that are dedicated to special tasks. These specialty engines are a lot cheaper than normal processors but are dedicated to specific tasks. zIIP runs data access (DB2 etc) tasks.

Mit minimalem Aufwand können Sie beträchtliche Einsparungen bei den Betriebskosten realisieren. Do you know that mainframe systems have several kinds of engines (i.e., processors) not just a Central Processor (CP)? Early mainframes had only one processor – the Central Processing Unit (CPU). As the mainframe industry evolved over the decades, today’s systems have a Central Processor Complex (CPC) consisting of several different processor types. Each processor […] Mainframe Modernization: HCL’s biggest strength, when it comes to legacy application modernization, is our ability to integrate our several distinct capabilities formed over decades of experience. Our propositions are powered by unique automation solutions that are curated for the best ROI and assurance for success.

The zIIP is unique because the work it performs is not measured for the purposes of calculating mainframe capacity and it has no speed restrictions. The mainframe does it a bit different by ensuring all the threads to the core are from the same program. It is enabled only for zIIP’s at this point of time.

zIIP The System z9® Integrated Information Processor (zIIP) is a specialized engine for processing eligible database workloads. The zIIP is designed to help lower software costs for select workloads on the mainframe, such as business intelligence (BI), enterprise resource planning (ERP) and customer relationship management (CRM).

The option allows a user to specify the limit (maximum) to the amount of eligible zIIP processing from a given SRB/TCB pair that is dispatched to a zIIP processor. In my organization - we are enabling ZIIP on Mainframe ZOS V1R13 , My question is what are the DSNZPARM parameter changes to be done for ZIIP enable and to offload the DB2 workload to ZIIP processor. Designed for mainframe environments, Adabas for zIIP and Natural for zIIP are two Software AG products that can offer substantial cost savings by moving Adabas and Natural workloads from an IBM general purpose processor(GPP) to less expensive zIIP processors. 2014-12-11 · Syncsort Leverages zIIP to Reduce Mainframe Costs Last month Syncsort released two related products, the ZPSaver Suite and MFX Sort for z/OS , release 2.1.

I know using ziip can reduce cost and can result in improved performance. But the thing is, not all jobs / sort step have this message even though I used almost the same sort parm. So, basically, I would like to know what is the 'criteria' on how we can utilize the Ziip in a sort step.

The MIPS capacity of the zIIP engine does not count toward the overall MIPS rating of the mainframe image, so all CPU usage incurred on the zIIP is not chargeable from IBM. Effectively, all workload run on the zIIP is free. This evolution in mainframe data management will change how Business Intelligence evolves over the next decade. Companies will customize their offerings according to historical data liberated from the mainframe to enhance BI and analytics. Two types of mainframe processors are available for agency use in the GETS environment. The general purpose processor is approximately five times more expensive to use than the z Integrated Information Processor, also known as the zIIP engine. A mainframe user may upgrade by adding the zIIP processor for $125,000.

The zIIP processor comes on the heels of other specialty processors that IBM has been adding to the mainframe, including the zAAP processor made available in 2004 for speeding Java applications. Durch Auslagern der Mainframe-Workload auf zIIP steht Ihnen mehr Budget (und Mainframe-Kapazität) für Innovationen zur Verfügung.

May 27, 2020 A few years ago I built a presentation on zIIP Capacity Planning. It highlighted the need for better capacity planning for zIIPs and outlined  In days gone by, organizations had well defined “batch windows” for their IBM mainframes for long running CPU and I/O intensive workloads… but in today's 24 /7  Is it possible to change SQL in a z/OS mainframe COBOL application so that it becomes eligible to be directed to the IBM System z Integrated Information  Sep 15, 2017 zIIPs are specialty processors that run eligible database workloads. Similar to zAAP and IFL processors, zIIP processors offloads specific  I think main points are that 1) IBM makes workload eligible to run as zIIP or not ( like any Java is zIIP'able) and 2) it must be dispatched as SRB,  IBM is adding a specialized, high-speed data processor to its z9 mainframes to A mainframe user may upgrade by adding the zIIP processor for $125,000.

It’s normal for it to run this way. The blue bar values are "zIIP on zIIP" – the work that was eligible for zIIP that actually ran on zIIPs. This is goodness.
